It is at the heart of Africa that NEGST thrives and it’s for this continent that we exist. Africa is in need of godly leadership, and it is because of this need that many students from all parts of Africa and the world have come to study at NEGST.
Preparations for this year’s orientation began early as we all anticipated the students’ arrival. Staff from every department put in their best to ensure that the students felt at home and that everything went according to plan. Monday 5th September began with a cup of tea for everyone. The students basked in the sun, trying to absorb as much heat as they could, due to the unpredictability of the weather. This was a good time for students to get to know each other. This was followed by a chapel service, where all faculty and staff members were introduced to the new students. The Vice Chancellor, Dr. Carew, welcomed the new students to NEGST and labeled them as “history makers”, as this semester’s intake is the highest in NEGST’s history. The class has 38 students in the Master degree programmes (two are yet to come), and five in the Christian Ministries Programme. For this, we give God all the glory.
The class has been drawn from a variety of African nations, such as Ethiopia, Congo, Kenya, and Sudan among others. The VC also recognized the very first students from Armenia and Hungary, who seemed very delighted to be here. Hasmik Babayan from Armenia said it has always her dream to come to Africa, as she had been praying for Africa for 8 years. She believes that her life is somehow connected to Africa.
The VC in a sermon on “Discipleship of the Heart” encouraged everyone to live their lives as disciples of Jesus Christ.
For the first time in NEGST, the extensions students got an orientation that was tailored to their needs on Saturday 10th September. This was another milestone in the history of NEGST. There were around 150 students who reported for the exercise, which began at 9:00 am and was completed at 3:00 pm. This is so far the biggest intake in the Extension Studies offered by NEGST.
Currently, the extensions classes are offered one day or two days in a week on campus, two evenings in a week at the All Saints Cathedral and Nairobi Pentecostal Church (Valley Road), and every Saturday at Nairobi Baptist Church. There is also an Undergraduate Cohort in Huruma (NCCK).
