THE FIRST EVER COMMUNITY POLICING INITIATIVE AT KAREN POLICE STATION

The first ever Community Policing Initiative, after the official launch of Community Policing, will be held at the Karen Police Station on Saturday, November 19, 2005 at 10:00 am. The initiative was kicked off when the Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology (NEGST) donated a telephone system (PABX) and 6 headsets to the Karen Police Station on August 24, 2005.

For more than 2 years, the Police Station has not had telephone access rendering it inaccessible by phone.

The guest of honor will be Mr. King’ori Mwangi, the Provincial Police Commissioner. The NEGST Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Douglas Carew, will commission the phone system.

Unlike any other attempts where police have gone to community for an opportunity to sensitize on the initiative, the NEGST community has gone to the police to initiate and provide leadership. The only other initiative like it was the national launch officiated by President Mwai Kibaki, in April 2005 at Ruai.

The highlight of the event will be the commissioning of the gate and the telephone, and an award ceremony for the outstanding officers in the station. The gate installation was realized through the partnership of Mamlaka Hill Chapel and Brookside Dairies Ltd. Other partners in the initiative are Fineline Industries, Grange Park, Matter Hospital, St. John’s Ambulance, Sara Lee Households, Telkom Kenya, and Eldoville Dairies Ltd.

The police station has been receiving a face lift, through week long activities which will climax on Saturday. These activities include painting, tree and flower planting, repairs and cleaning.

NEGST is committed to enhancing the capacity of the police to serve the community better and more efficiently.
