Graduation 2005
July 9, 2005 was a day of great celebrations at NEGST. As it is for every student, the graduation ceremony is the climax of their studies, marking the end of many hours of toil in libraries, classrooms and exams and the start of a new era in their lives.
This was also a history making with a total of 63 students graduating. 38 Masters, 11 Christian Ministries Programme and 14 post-graduate diploma certificates were conferred.
The processional march was led by children, singing and dancing. Shouts of joy and ululations were heard as families and friends witnessed their loved ones receive their certificates.
Dr. Douglas Carew, NEGST VC opened the ceremony with a word of prayer. The guest of honor Dr. Ken Birch, (East & Central Africa Director of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada) gave the key note address. Speaking on The Role of the Church in the African Renaissance, in his speech titled Hold on to What is Good, Dr. Birch said that there was a danger to moving or removing the ancient landmarks in a mad rush for change. He urged the Graduates to hold on to:
- Godly Attitudes, for example peace, love, encouragement, patience, forgiveness, kindness, joy, prayer and thankfulness
- Their dependence on the Holy Spirit
- The authority of scriptures
- Holiness
NEGST’s Chancellor, Dr. Tokunboh Adeyemo, and Pastor Dave Kiamu, the Graduating Class’ representative, also addressed the congregants.
At the end of the ceremony, the campus was full of parties and celebrations, and many more parties went on off campus.
