Purpose and objectives

The Master of Divinity programmes are designed to provide professional training for those planning to minister in urban churches, teach in Africa’s theological institutions or minister in a variety of church or para-church ministries. The training is carried out with full recognition of African context in which the graduates go on to minister.

At the end of the course of study in the M.Div. a student should be able to:

demonstrate a good general knowledge of the content of the Old and New Testaments
interact biblically and intelligently with historical and current theological issues and positions both within the African and global contexts
articulate clearly the call of Christians to world evangelisation and demonstrate that understanding through personal involvement
demonstrate basic teaching skills in his/her area of ministry
administer church and para-church organizations
understand, through godly guidance, his/her call, gifts and abilities so as to function well in specific area of specialization
manifest a godly life, serving others with humility
exemplify moral and ethical integrity in all dealings with fellow believers and society in general
live in love and harmony with fellow Christians

Content of programme (List of courses)

A total of 143 hours is required for the M.Div. programme, which is vocation related. The programme offers 8 hours of common courses, 93 hours of core courses and 42 hours of specialisation core courses. Students in the programme can pursue the following Master of Divinity emphasis: Biblical Studies, Christian Education, Church History, Missions, Pastoral, Theological and Translation Studies. On the other hand, a student can pursue a general area of study without the intention of taking any emphasis. The requirements of the Master of Divinity and its emphases are as follows:
